She has over 10 years of community organizing experience for a wide range of social and health justice issues and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Public Health from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently pursuing her MSW/MPH at the University of Washington-Seattle.

Brixby-Oakland

Brixby is a birth doula currently completing her certification through DONA International. Reflective of her work with Full Spectrum Doulas, she is dedicated to providing understanding and compassionate care to women through all aspects of pregnancy and decision-making. Brixby is an advocate for women’s reproductive justice and for providing safe, low to no cost reproductive health care including abortion services. In addition, she has participated in several doula trainings, reproductive health workshops and meet-ups, and is a contributor to Planned Parenthood.

Brixby recognizes the major gaps in funding and support for women’s reproductive health care that separate women from the services they rightfully deserve. She is passionate about collaborating with other pro-choice, reproductive health advocates in creating and providing solutions and reproductive health services to any woman regardless of age, race, or socio-economic background. Through her participation in the pro-choice community, Brixby also continues to advocate for better access to reproductive health education to allow people to make informative, consensual decisions regarding their bodies.

Brixby plans to use her birth doula skills to provide services to women that would otherwise not have access to doula services and is eager to expand her work to encompass abortion, adoption, and postpartum support. In addition, Brixby is a nanny and a Spanish student working toward fluency.

Sarah H.-NYC

Sarah is a birth doula and Social Worker. Her work experience spans white anti-racism work, trauma recovery and justice advocacy in the Middle East. She became a doula wanting to support families having strength and choice in pregnancy, in birth and abortion. Sarah founds her doula work, and engagement with reproductive justice, in liberatory practice; believing that with consent and choice in pregnancy there is potential for major individual and societal change and healing.

As a doula Sarah supports mothers in having a sense of personal power and an embodied experience. Sarah currently volunteers as a birth doula and facilitator for a local organization serving low income women. She is passionate about doula services being available for all pregnant mothers.

Sarah is also a writer and as often as possible she is dancing, running or cycling.
